How to keep New Year’s Resolutions

Happy New Year 2011 Ladies and Gents!

After a long night of boozing and partying and waking up with a stranger beside you, welcome to the year 2011!

As for me, I celebrated it totally alone and in quiet, fell asleep before the fireworks went off. But you know what, i was at peace with myself and with the world. That’s the important thing isn’t it? That is the goal that everyone works towards to. To be happy and at peace. But I digress.

Today, as is totally cliche, let’s talk about resolutions. I am totally a resolutions girl. I make new resolutions throughout the year. Every time I hit bottom,  I sit up and think my way through and make resolutions to help myself stand up again. I look at resolutions as more of goals to achieve in the coming year. Last year, I achieved at least half of my resolutions. So why do some people succeed while others fail miserably?

These are a few rules to follow:

1.  Keep the resolutions simple and achievable. e.g I will reduce my weight by 5 kg.

2. Be as detailed and as specific as you can. e.g I will reduce my weight by 5 kg by not eating fast food and drinking sugared drinks, exercising 3 times a day on Mon, Wed, and Friday for 30 minutes each session.

3. Outline an execution plan.

4. Visualize yourself or your life after achieving this goal. This will be the main motivational drive that keeps you going.

5. Keep the list of goals in your pocket / PDA and look at it every once so often to remind yourself and what you want.
